Okay, so, I went and saw Inglourious Basterds tonight. Why tonight? Because I’m broke and it was at the cheap theater finally, that’s why.
So, my thoughts?(spoiler warning. Spoilerless version, I liked it but it’s not fun.)
- Overall, pretty good. I mean, I’ve seen better films, sure, but a solid entry by good old Tarantino.
- This is in no way a FUN film. It is a dark, bloody, gruesome film. NOBODY was a sympathetic character in this. NOBODY. There was maybe one dude who I didn’t want to see die. And then he goes and pretty much tries to rape a woman, who proceeds to shoot him. Soooo….Yeah.
- They had the balls to kill Hitler. Quite frankly, I’m surprised. Most media really shies away from that one. But hey, it worked.
- The effects are very well done, and very, very gruesome. This is not a movie for the faint of heart, or the squeamish.
- This is in no way what the trailers advertised, I can assure you. Because the trailers advertised something much, much…Lighter and actionier, let’s say. This movie is a lot of interaction punctuated by sharp, hard, fast action sequences. They’re well done, but still. Not what I expected.
- On an unrelated note, never is the evil of a concession stand more obvious than at a cheap theater. My ticket was $2.00. My drink was $3.75. That’s fucking retarded, okay?
So, all in all…I’ll admit, I probably would say it wasn’t worth a full-price ticket. But then, very little is. It was definitely worth what I paid for it, and it’s definitely worth the eventual DVD cost if you’re into this kind of film. I’d say it’s a solid 4 star film, if I were to use a star rating: Not quite my thing, but very well executed, and I’ve got to give it props for that.
